    Paediatric First Aid Course

    This course is primarily designed to provide those who work with children and infants (including children’s and nursery nurses/ nannies etc) with the knowledge and understanding to be able to deal with essential first aid to that group. It has been run for years to train Council based schools teachers and ancillary staff, including Edinburgh City Council, and a number of well-known children’s nursery chains.

    Our paediatric first aid course is a 1 day (7-hour duration) course, designed to equip a person to take on the role of paediatric first aider with competency skills to deal with first aid emergencies within a childcare setting, as per Care Inspectorate for Scotland and Ofsted recommended guidelines.

    The delegate will receive training in what they should do in an emergency, dealing with an unconscious child/ infant, the control of wounds & bleeding and resuscitation techniques including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and other childhood emergencies and conditions.

    Following successful ongoing practical assessment, this qualification certifies the successful first aider for a 3 year period from the date of qualification. The course follows a no-nonsense approach and is designed to instil confidence in the delegate. Delegates are actively encouraged to contribute,  and student feedback indicates we’re doing it right.

    It is an in-depth course, but is an informative fun introduction to paediatric first aid for non-first aiders, and doesn’t require any prior knowledge of first aid for commencing training.

    Delegates presented for training by their employer or course booker should be of suitable physical, mental, and emotional disposition to be able to fully undertake the role of emergency first aider within their workplace. They should have good communication skills and be reliable and able to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures¹.

    Syllabus for this 1-day course includes;

    • paediatric first aider role
    • child/infant recovery position
    • CPR
    • burns and scalds
    • breathing disorders
    • asthma
