Safer People Handling Awareness (SPHA) Course
Our Safer People Handling Awareness course is a full day 7-hour theory led course with an extensive practical element. Similar to our Manual Handling Awareness courses, we do not believe that computer-based training (CBT), however convenient, is appropriate in teaching delegates how to safely move and handle service users in a care setting, or at home.
The course includes Back Care Association and Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents approved methods and includes legislation, safe movement techniques to avoid shearing forces in the service user, and an extensive practical session involving each delegate. We can advise and train delegates on the safe use of hoists and people handling equipment (conditions apply) and on completion, each delegate completes a validation form and signs a training record, a copy of which is sent to the course booker along with their course certificate.
Course syllabus includes;
- Legislation
- Manual Handling Injuries
- The human spine
- Top Heavy Bending
- Base Movement techniques
- Control Strategies
- Duty of Care
- Controversial techniques
- Guided skills session
- Hoisting
- Assisted emergency procedures
